The Palliative Care unit of the Centre Hospitalier Intercommunal Toulon - La Seyne sur Mer opened on October, 15th, 2012.
It is a short stay unit of 12 beds for patients with serious, progressive, life-threatening, advanced or terminal illnesses.
Patients are admitted either for temporary stays with the aim of relieving symptoms and returning to the drop-in centre desired by the patient, or for respite stays when management becomes an issue in the usual living place or for end-of-life management.
The patients have individual rooms with the possibility of accomodation for an accompanying person, a room is arranged for families and visiting hours are not limited.
Missions
The unit has a regional vocation.
Its principal missions are:
- Relieve pain and other symptoms associated with the illness
- Provide psychological, spiritual and social support
- Support those around you before, during and after death
- Assist grieving
- Prepare the return home whenever possible and desired.
Admission procedures
Admissions are made at the resquest of the patient's referring physician, whether hospital or private, after having filled in an admission file. All requests for admission are evaluated in order to dertermine the situations related to hospitalisation in a palliative care unit.
